Dine in style and finesse in a private dining room in one of Singapore’s leading Italian restaurants, Grillery @ OSO Ristorante while appreciating beautiful live opera singing.
Opera Dinner is a multi-dimensional concept celebrating both the arts through opera music and culinary delights through fine dining experience.
This unique dining concept inaugurated in Singapore last December. It is proudly brought to you by SingExperience which was launched after two years of meticulous planning and conceptualisation.
Catch the opera singers live, engaging diners from table to table , over a three-course dinner setting, prepared specially by the highly acclaimed and award-winning Chef Diego Chiarini of OSO Ristorante. This is an unusual concept different from the usual standard setting of Opera singing in a classical theatre, performed either solo or with an orchestra. What’s more … be pleasantly surprised hearing professional opera singing by our very own locals!
The creators of Opera Dinner, SingExperience, shared that many especially the younger generation is losing track from traditional genre of old world music like opera as they increasingly are pre-occupied in the world of Internet and social media. Opera Dinner wants to revive opera, break conventions and create awareness of opera by engaging local opera artistes.
Opera had been a very popular form of entertainment 600 years ago in Europe especially among the well-heeled who would gather in a formal setting: theatre style to enjoy being entertained with music performed by opera singers. Opera had been a powerful form of art which captured much emotive appeal among the elites.

SingExperience wants to break this elitist notion. We want to show that Opera is not archaic, not for the old or affluent or exclusive but is trendy, fresh and enjoyable. Most importantly its easily accessible to be appreciated by anyone by any age and from all walks of life.
On the profile of the two local opera singers, Soprano Felicia Teo and Tenor Leslie Tay; Both took up university studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Today they are full time voice / choir teachers and freelance as opera singers/performers.
Felicia started singing when she was 18 years old. She grew up in a family of singers. Before Manhattan School of Music, she was an undergraduate in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore.
Leslie was Felicia’s senior, having studied in Manhattan School of Music first. He first caught his first memorable ‘wow’ moment in opera at a choir performance and decided to ‘jump on board’ by joining choir during his secondary school days in River Valley High School. He never looked back since.
They shared that the difference between choir and opera is that both are different music genres with different aesthetics and each having its own style and language.

When it comes to preserving vocal cords, each has different practices. Leslie avoids deep fried food and alcohol while Felicia eats almost everything. Their main concern is in every singer’s concern; the re-flux of acid in the digestive track that can cause damage to the vocal cords which will affect voices. This explains why it is highly recommended that singers try to avoid or reduce spicy food and caffeine-rich products and alcohol.
