The results has been announced last week!! Out of the three types of cocktails created by Mekhong Mixologist, Mr. Kitiphum (“Ponn”) Karnmaitrejit, Mekhong Thai Sabai came in as the top pick among discerning guests who attended “My Pick Event” that aimed to help him to decide on the cocktail to be served at the on-going Singapore Cocktail Festival 2019.
All invited guests had the chance to sample each cocktail at Neon Pigeon on 5th April 2019 to help Ponn to decide which is the best. A total of Thirty-three (33) votes were collected during the event. Fifteen (15) voted Mekhong Thai Sabai as their top pick. Mekhong Midnight came close second with fourteen (14) votes naming the drink as their favourite. Only four (4) voted Mekhong Essence as their number one drink for the evening.
The signature drink of Thailand, Mekhong Thai Sabai depicts one of the most outstanding Thai characteristics – “Sabai Sabai”, which means happy in Thai. Made with Mekhong, fresh lime juice, Thai sweet basil leaves and a splash of soda water, Mekhong Thai Sabai is a refreshing libation that is well-balanced with a sour-sweet taste as well as fruity and herbal notes.
With three points allocated to the first pick, two to the second, and one to the third, Mekhong Thai Sabai accumulated seventy-two (72) points and topped as the overall favourite as well. Mekhong Midnight came in as a close second again with a total of seventy-one (71) points. Mekhong Essence garnered a total of 55 (fifty-five) points.
Mekhong Essence is inspired by Loy Krathong festival, the popular river festival of Thailand. The festival celebrates the river and the life force it brings. Mekhong is mixed with coconut water. It has hints of Yuzu and pandan. It is delicately fragrant and refreshing.
A multi-layered and spirit-forward option, Mekhong Midnight is inspired by the Mekhong river that flows from North to North-East of Thailand. North-East in Thai is known as “E-Sarn”. The drink which comprises Mekhong, Cynar Liqueur and Sambuca, is topped with a pinch of roasted sticky rice that is unique to E-Sarn called “Khaao Khuaa”.
Ponn, who created the cocktails, is passionate about creating artisanal Thai cocktails with distinctive local ingredients. He is also keen to impart his knowledge on Thai ingredients, flavours, culture and food pairing. Mekhong Thai Sabai will be available at Jim Thompson during this period of the Singapore Cocktail Festival 2019.
