On-going till the 2nd of March, you can now celebrate your Lunar New Year with a twist through a feast prepared by Executive Chef Elvin Chew of LOCAL Restaurant & Bar located in the new 30 Bencoolen Hotel!
The traditional well wishes remain while this round you get to taste something different out of our usual classic Chinese Cuisine. The Lunar New Year menu includes eight dishes and dessert that are must-haves to start the year of Dog on a high note. The following dishes are available for dine-in and takeaways.
30 Bencoolen “Sure HUAT” Yu Sheng
年年有餘 – “一定發” 鱼生
Get Ready to Toss for a Good Fortune and Prosperous Year of Dog this 2018!
年年有餘 means abundance year after year; Here we have a cute little golden yellow koi fish made up of Tomato Liquid Konjac Jelly filled with Smoked Norwegian Salmon that gives you a cool and refreshing texture. For those who are looking for Yu sheng that is savoury, Chef Alvin has prepared a dressing made up of spring onion and ginger. The overall sweetness now lies with the natural flavours of the ingredients used instead of the traditional plum sauce which sometimes may over-power the palate of those who might not like too sweet. Herb Oil prepared with oil infused with herbs for 6 hours in the wok is used to bring up the fragrance of this Yu Sheng Dish. You do not have to pour the whole bowl of oil if you worry it might be a bit too greasy; a good gauge will be at least half.

Craving for both Spanish suckling pig and Chinese glutinous rice with wax meat? You can have them both here served with a choice of classic hoisin or go ‘Mexican’ with caramelised pineapple sauce!
This milk-fed piglet (3kg before roast) has been cured prior to roasting in the oven. In my opinion, the pineapple sauce will balance the natural ‘greasiness’ and the light ‘saltish’ flavour of this dish with its tropical sweetness.
We also strongly recommend you to pair the suckling pig with your choice of white wine. Cheers!

This is not your typical phoenix chicken because of the nutty flavour of the almond and fragrance garlic. The chicken meat is also tender and moist within due to being sous vided with five spice marinate first before roasting it. Have it on its own or dip it with another sauce which chef Elvin has prepared; the black bean mayo! You will definitely like this dish!

Using tender flavourful beef instead of the usual diced chicken is absolutely something new out of those dishes which was presented earlier. On top of that, this round we have the young purple taro which is not just more nutritious, the texture is not as starchy which gives one a better mouth feel and the taste. The light black pepper sauce cheeks indeed goes well with the yam ring. As the flavour is different compared to the traditional yam ring, this dish should be eaten as soon as possible upon serve – in my opinion. Perhaps its time to pick a bottle of red wine to go with this dish!

After trying out a bite of each individual items, mix everything all up, enjoy the chewy glutinous rice ball with peanuts on the exterior and black sesame filling inside, the smooth sweet potato, pumpkin & yam puree with gingko nuts and coconut milk ice cream. The ‘unusual’ way of having a bowl of ‘hot’ taro yam paste.

complementary Pink & Blue menus for couples to indulge in. Savour a Norwegian Salmon from the flowing
river or a Kelong Sea bass fresh from the mighty sea, and choose between heavier and lighter flavours
depending on your preferences.
The Pink & Blue Valentine’s Day 4-course dinner menus are available on 13 and 14 February at $68++ per
person (with free flow of juices and soft drinks) or $118++ per person (with free flow of sparkling wine,
red and white wine, beer, juices and soft drinks).
